A Moredun Research Institute board member and leading environmental scientist is set to take up a key role at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC).
Professor David Hopkins, formerly Dean of Agriculture, Food and Environment at the Royal Agricultural University, where he is now the International Director, has been appointed Dean of the new Central Faculty, overseeing SRUC’s academic strategy in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
SRUC is introducing the new faculty model to ensure that its services are responsive to the various needs of the rural economy in different regions of Scotland, while continuing to achieve national and international impact.
Prof Hopkins is one of three new Deans appointed by SRUC, with Prof Caroline Argo leading the North Faculty, covering SRUC’s activity in Aberdeen, Inverness and Fife, and Prof Nick Sparks named Faculty Dean for the South-West, responsible for activity in Ayr and Dumfries.
Prof Jamie Newbold, Academic Director at SRUC, said: “Professor Hopkins brings an extraordinary wealth of expertise and experience to SRUC. Along with our other new Deans, he will play a vital role in delivering our academic strategy in what is truly the dawning of a new era for Scotland’s Rural College.”
Professor Hopkins has been a Moredun board member since 2015 and has considerable experience of the Scottish higher education and research sectors. His new role at SRUC will help strengthen Moredun’s new strategic partnership with the higher education institute.
